In research projects, individual solutions are required. A university institute faced the task of redesigning a prototype transformer. PACK LitzWire offered technical support and used the LiWiCalc tool, which is tailored to its own produced litz wires.
The Challenge
The research project required a redesign of a transformer with special frequency and power parameters. Many characteristic values were only determined experimentally, which necessitated precise simulation. Traditional rules of thumb were not sufficient to reliably predict losses and field effects in the prototype.
The prototype transformer with RUPALIT litz wire forms the basis for simulation-based series of tests and serves as a reference component for the validation of new winding concepts in the laboratory environment.
The experimental winding design shows the focus on low-loss conductor routing and reproducible geometries, as they are crucial for iterative prototype developments in research and teaching.
Solution Strategy
PACK LitzWire supported the research team with comprehensive development consulting. Various litz wire configurations were tested together: number of litz wires, conductor cross-section, and twisting pattern. The LiWiCalc program was used to calculate critical losses with high realism. Through this iterative adjustment, the optimal litz wire for the prototype could be determined.
Result
Finally, PACK LitzWire supplied samples and data, which significantly increased efficiency and minimized unwanted power losses in the experiment.
